A clear path to getting started
You do not need to understand the whole system before you begin. Here is the usual path through Early Start in the East Bay.

Start with your regional center
Contact the Regional Center of the East Bay to request an Early Start evaluation. Call the intake line at 510 618 6195 or visit rceb.org.

Evaluation and family plan
The regional center learns about your child's development and your family's priorities. If eligible, you create an IFSP, a written plan for your child's early intervention services.

Provider authorization
Your regional center sends an authorization to an approved provider that has an opening.

Visits with Carly
Your first visit is time to get to know your child, your routines, and what matters to your family. Future visits happen at home or in a familiar community setting.
Signs you might want an evaluation
It is okay to ask
- Mealtimes feel stressful, or your child has a hard time with foods or textures.
- Movement skills, balance, or coordination seem harder than expected.
- Sounds, touch, motion, or busy places often feel overwhelming.
- Your child has difficulty exploring toys, using their hands, or joining play.
If you are unsure, it is fine to ask.
